While we’re sure this was a great deal for customers, it was inadvertent, and we took a big loss (over $1.6 million – ouch) selling so many items so far under cost. However, it was our mistake. We will be honoring all purchases that took place on 6pm.com during our mess up.

Just last weekend, Borders screwed up similarly: Borders Does A Price Bait And Switch!

How did they handle that? They wiped out all of the orders and sent everyone a twenty-five dollar gift card!

Now, which of these two companies do you think people will be praising and praising and praising in the weeks to come?

What 6pm.com did cost them money. But how they handled that mistake showed what their corporate soul is.

They understand that a customer is really priceless.

Borders thinks a customer is worth twenty-five bucks.

And that’s why we’ll all be saying goodbye to Borders down the road.

  1. Very close to what I told them in my reply to their “apology” – without the excellent example of 6pm to demonstrate the truth of my stance.

  2. Agree. Companies could learn a lot from Zappos and the way they do business (Zappos is the parent company of 6PM.com). Unfortunately few do and even fewer care to.

  3. Really, the smugness of Borders has been shown to all now. There’s no excuse for what they did and now there’s an example to really rub it in. It’s karma.
