How Apple hides the iPad’s dirty little secret with an optical illusion.

Disposable computing and Consumerism

The iPad turns hardware into a subscription business. How long do you think it will take for Apple to turn that battery ‘replacement’ service into an upgrade ‘opportunity’? And how is ‘upgrading’ your device every year or so different from a subscription model? I don’t see Apple themselves offering a subscription-based model right away but I see cellphone carriers doing exactly that in a heartbeat. Assuming a lifetime of 2 years the iPad comes down to a measly $20 per month. People pay more for crappy cable TV subscriptions! Small routine monthly payments are good for business & bad for unwitting consumers. Ask Zynga.
